We had a similar experience in Vadodara when my wife was pregnant with our second daughter. It happened so that when we visited the female doctor for her check-up my first daughter was with us. After the check up she advised us for sono graphy to check the sex of the child and mentioned that if the second child is a girl than you can go for abortion as you both are young and go for a boy. In reply I told the doctor that even if the second child is a girl wil now be my boy and never advise us for committing such sin. I am now going to see the doctor with my second daughter when I visit India next year. I would like to tell her how beautiful, loving and caring my daughter is and what she has achieved in her life. NEWS CLIPPING: There's a village in Bihar that is greener than many others. For, it celebrates the birth of girl children by planting saplings. And now Dharhara is counting the number of girls born and the trees planted in the last 100 years -- in a symbolic move against female foeticide. "We have been collecting information about every girl child born in the village to compile the genealogical table. It is a matter of pride for us that Dharhara village has become a role model for gender equality," said Nagender Singh, a village resident. Another villager, Ramesh Prasad, in his mid-40s, said the decision to compile the data reaffirms "our commitment of happiness towards the birth of the girl child in the village.” Dharhara, a small village in Bhagalpur district, got worldwide attention a few years back for its unique tradition. "We don't feel sorry when a girl is born; instead we celebrate by planting a tree. All villagers are helping in compiling the data to count the number of girl children born and trees planted on their birth. We are trying to obtain the genealogical table of all families," he said. Prasad says according to the practice, every family in the village plants at least 10 trees whenever a girl is born. The practice has paid off well as Dharhara now makes other villages look pale in comparison to its greenery. The village impressed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar last year with its initiative, which symbolises the empowerment of women and the protection of the environment in a unique way. The chief minister had lauded the village and dubbed it as a role model for other villages. Nitish Kumar again visited Dharhara June 5 this year and said the tradition establishes that the girl child is not a liability. "Planting of saplings on the birth of a girl child, if adopted by others, could help Bihar increase its green cover," the chief minister said. He also gifted the village a Kilkari Bal Kendra and a Kasturba Gandhi Balika residential school to encourage its remarkable commitment to society and nature, officials said. It is estimated that there are over 20,000 trees in the village. The fruit trees have helped the village economically, bringing it considerable earning. "The fruit trees are like bank deposits. It also keeps the environment rich," said Munna Singh, a middle-aged villager. "We treat a girl child as the incarnation of goddess Lakshmi (the Hindu goddess of wealth)," he added. At 933, the state's child sex ratio is better than the national average of 914, but has come down from the 981 figure the state registered 30 years ago.- IANS

i would like to ask if there is any action taken against doctors performing illegal service to uneducated people in small towns in india. i know a doctor in the district who is a gynaecologist and performs all kinds of operations on patients coming to him even when he is just certified to perform gyanaecology. He even encourages his family members such as his son and wife to come to the operation theatre and then teach them to take stitchees for the patients so they can have a practical training. the people in district are not that educated. it comes in a district of gujarat. i think you should take action gainst this doctor by performing a sting operation. i have evn heard from other locals there that he even performs kidney operations and many more.. when he cant do that. if you could even let me know where i can take this complain in india i would be thnakful to you. thanks

Here I am presenting my thoughts in form of Poem, Originally written by Me: गर्भ से कब्र तक माँ मैं तो तेरी बेटी थी। तेरी कोख में कितने दिनों से आराम से लेटी थी, तेरी कोख में अपने आप को सुरक्षित महसूस करती थी। तेरे संग हंसती थी, तेरे संग रोती थी। तेरे संग खेलती थी। माँ मैं तो तेरी बेटी थी। तेरे हर साँस पर जीती थी, तेरे हर कौर से मैं पलती थी। तेरे संग-संग चलती थी, तेरी आँखों से दुनिया देखती थी, तेरे हर स्पर्श को महसूस करती थी, माँ मैं तो तेरी बेटी थी। फिर ऐसा क्या हुआ मां? उस दिन चुप क्यूँ रह गयी, उन सारे दुखों को क्यूँ चुपचाप सह गयी? उस दिन एक अजीब सी आहट हुई थी, जिसे सुनकर मुझे घबराहट हुई थी, ना जाने फिर क्या हुआ, मुझे कुछ एहसास नहीं। जब आँख खुली तो देखा तू मेरे पास नहीं, अब तेरे हर स्पर्श, हर सांस को तरस रही थी, मुझे एहसास हुआ की मैं अब किसी और दुनिया में थी, जहाँ न कोई बेटा था,न बेटी थी। पर माँ आखिर मेरी क्या यही गलती थी!!! की मैं इस पुरुष समाज में एक बेटी थी, लेकिन माँ मैं तो तेरी बेटी थी। है ना!!!!!! आशुतोष
